Health Advantages of Jogging with a Sports Stroller

Running with a baby stroller has many benefits of getting your body back into shape. It emulates the action of commercial gyms’ exercise equipment.

The routine helps you shed pounds while also working to strengthen your muscles. You’re exercising not only your upper and lower body but also your entire body to the point of exhaustion while pushing a baby stroller.

Helps Burns More Calories

Researchers from Seattle Pacific University broke down the number of calories burned based on how you push the Jogger stroller, which is especially useful for new Mother Runners looking to regain their pre-baby weight:

• Using two hands to make the stroller raises the number of calories burned by around 5%.

• Using one hand to drive improves it by about 6%.

• And using the push-and-chase form improves it by around 8%.

You Can Run Slow With a Stroller & Still get a Great Workout.

Researchers have also found that runners can run slower than their usual pace but still burn the same amount of calories as if they were running faster without the stroller.

(These sweet researchers even developed a calculator to estimate calorie expenditure based on pace, distance, and pushing technique.)

Bumpy Roads

If you choose to run on a rough path rather than a flat, non-bumpy lane, a jogging stroller can make you run much smoother and more convenient for you and your baby.

Improvements in Form

According to running coach Erik Orton, author of The Cool Impossible, while running while pushing a stroller can seem awkward at first, it will help your form — and probably even boost your pace.

Since the stroller is in front of you, it stops you from overstretching. This is important on downhills, where you must hold the stroller to prevent it from running away from you — something I initially struggled with within San Francisco’s famously hilly terrain. “That acts as a form of braking,”

Orton explains, “so you can hold your foot strike under you in a good way while still feeling like you’re braking.” “It helps hold your feet under you and your body striking the ground.”

Increased Visibility

When you run in a congested area like mine, you get in the habit of keeping an eye out for distracted drivers and cars speeding through stop signs.

But I’ve found that when I’m pushing the jogging stroller, drivers consider me more — and they’re more likely to follow the pedestrian-has-the-right-of-way rule.

Toned Arms

Pumping iron is not my favorite form of sculpting my shoulders and fixing those awful underarm bat wings, even though I had time to go to the gym.

However, I’ve found some new definitions in my biceps and shoulders because of the tremendous effort it takes to handle the stroller — especially if I’m going for a run through my neighborhood that involves maneuvering along sidewalks.
